Movie Review: True Grit

Jeff Bridges-Rooster Cogburn
Matt Damon-LaBeouf (Texas Ranger)
Josh Brolin-Tom Chaney
Hailee Steinfield-Mattie Ross

This movie was really good. I thought it was very entertaining to watch. I have not seen the original film of this movie and this is the first Coen brothers film I have seen. Now I got that out of the way lets continue.

"Nothing free except the grace of God"

Steinfield playing Mattie Ross was great. She was very quick witted, self confident and could stand up for herself. This is her first time being in a classic movie that was being re-imagined by the Coen's. So that means that there are a lot of expectations from fans and critics. Bridges is playing a role that John Wayne used to play, U.S Deputy Marshall Rooster Cogburn. Watching Bridges playing Rooster was hillarious, and amazing entertainment. One of the funniest moments was when Rooster and LaBeouf were shooting rice biscuits in the air so that one of them could claim that they were a better shooter then the other one. Damon playing as LaBeouf did a great job. Seeing him and Bridges act together was really cool. I liked when LeaBouf shoots one of Chaney's goons from a far distance to save Cogburn. I know that Brolin has been in other movies such as (American Gangster and No Country for Old Men) but he did a great job being the bad guy, Tom Chaney.

At first Rooster and LaBeouf were partners and they were going to go look for Chaney with Ross, but LaBeouf would always argue with Rooster and he would leave the group. This happened a couple of times in the movie. He eventually stayed with Rooster and Mattie. The chemistry that Ross has between LaBeouf and Rooster, makes me feel like she is already an experienced actor even though this is her first major role.

Final Verdict: True Grit was very entertaining. If you are a fan of this classic movie some people might say "prepare yourself for a different version of True Grit." If you have not seen the original and are about to go see this movie then I say go for it! It's worth spending the money. I hope this will go for an Oscar. It will be interesting to see the next role that Steinfield will be in. I give this 10 out of 10.
