If you have read the first story of Kick-Ass, you will love where the story of Kick-Ass 2 #1 is going. Writer Mark Millar and John Romita Jr who is the artist are masters at there own craft.
What we see in this first issue is that Hit Girl (Mindy McCready) is training Kick Ass (Dave Lzewski) to become a better fighter. I am all for that because she fought amazing in Kick-Ass 1 (and when I saw her in the movie) so that's great that she is training him. Mindy is now living with her new father Marcus Williams who was friends with Mindy's father, (spoiler alert) he died in Kick Ass 1. She is also living with her mother. It good to see that she has a mom and dad, but it would of been interesting to see her living on her own since it seemed like from the previous book and the movie that she can take care of herself. Dave still has his two friends in high school. I just want to make it clear that Dave has a girlfriend in the movie version of Kick Ass "not" in the comic book version. Now back to this comic. Back in Kick Ass 1, Katie Deauxma got angry with him and she got one of her male friends to beat Dave up because he was pretending to be her gay friend so he could make out with her. Now in this issue we still find out that he is still in love with Katie Deauxma, she is his "Mary Jane". Due to Mindy having a family she promised to her father "no more guns, mo more, masks, and no more secret training". So what is Dave left to do now that Mindy is not there to help him fight crime? Well the issue ends with him joining a group called "Justice Forever". So I think he will be just fine without Mindy, for a while.
Final Verdict: If you have not bought this comic yet, buy it now. The way Romita draws each character is outstanding. Millar's writing makes me excited for the next issue. I give this 10 out of 10
