The Birth of the Lion
At City College of San Francisco, there is a new cafe on campus, the Chasing Lion Cafe. This cafe is very popular for students to socialize and relax at. It’s located at the multi-use-building right across the street on Phelan avenue. The Chasing Lions owner, Keba A Konte, the menu, and the experience of just being there, make this cafe one of a kind. I got to spend some time with Chasing Lions Cafe owner, Keba A Konte, getting to know a little about him, and the origins of his cafe. Keba is a San Francisco native that first started as a student at CCSF in 1985.
He majored in photography and still attends today, currently enrolled in advanced judo classes. There was a need that matched his passion which inspired him to create his cafe, Chasing Lions Cafe on the CCSF campus. Creating the cafe has been a fun process for him. Working with electricians and interviewing over one-hundred students who wanted to work at the cafe was a very big challenge for Keba. With the menu that he has at his cafe, the prices are very good, serving organic milk, eggs, chocolate, and supporting local business over fifteen years. Overall he is the one that decides what to put on the menu, but he would ask his team or people in the culinary industry for their suggestions. Select Purveyor and Boarshed are the companies that supply the food.
When I take my first steps into this glorious cafe, I am greeted by the sound of R & B music, the chatter of students, old and new pictures of art hanging on the wall, and then welcoming words of an employee behind the counter saying to me “What would you like to order today?” I look at the many options that lay before me on the menu and the bake goods on display. I tell the employee what I want to eat and drink and he or she prepares it for me. As I wait, I am very happy and relaxed with all the positive energy that’s all around me. I get my food handed to me by the employee and find a quiet spot to sit at in the cafe. This is what you will expect when you come visit Chasing Lions Cafe here at City College of San Francisco. Go Lions!
